PRKN and diabetes mellitus: Methionine sulfoxylation (MetO) levels resulting from ROS and MsrB2 were both significantly increased in DM mice (MetO; normal heart (n = 3); 0.97 ± 0.03, DM heart (n = 3) 1.29 ± 0.12, P = 0.013 and MsrB2; normal heart (n = 3); 1.05 ± 0.06, DM heart (n = 3) 1.29 ± 0.05, P = 0.009) (Fig. 1B and C). MsrB2 has been reported to increase mitophagy (selective mitochondria autophagy) by binding to Parkin and LC3II in platelets of DM [34].
