Previous studies involving other mental diseases, such as depression and Alzheimer’s disease, had reported that the higher the agitation score of patients, the stronger the activity of HPA axis [16–18], suggesting the HPA axis participating in the correlation between TNF-α levels and agitation symptom in schizophrenia.Prior studies suggest that the TNF-α is associated with the activation of dopamine pathways, agitation symptoms are associated with an increased concentration of dopamine in the brain, and treatment is focused on blocking dopamine receptors and controlling agitation [19]. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and depressive symptom measurement.
