Central apolipoproteins, some originating peripherally and others synthesized locally (e.g., APOA-I in brain endothelial cells, APOH in astrocytes and neurons), are implicated in neurodegenerative disorders such as Parkinson’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease (AD) (Elliott et al., 2010; Xu et al., 2023a). This evidence concerns the gene APOA1 and Parkinson disease.
