At the same time, DNA repair deficiencies associated with BRCA1/2 loss represent an Achilles’ heel of cancer cells, which is exploited by therapies targeting DNA, such as platinum-based compounds (i.e. cisplatin and carboplatin), or inhibiting specific repair pathways, such as Poly-ADP Ribose Polymerase (PARP) inhibitors (9–11).
