Proatherogenic lipoprotein(a) [Lp(a)] is composed of apolipoprotein(a) (apo(a)) and apolipoprotein B (apoB) and is the primary plasma sink for oxidized phospholipids (OxPLs) (19, 20, 21, 22) Despite established associations between Lp(a) and risk of severe coronary artery atherosclerosis, the role of Lp(a) and OxPLs in development and progression of extracoronary vascular disease is controversial.
