A recent report in patients undergoing dialysis has shown that transferrin saturation of 20–30% was associated with a decreased risk of both cerebrovascular and cardiovascular disease (HR [95% CI] 0.25 [0.07–0.91]), and that transferrin saturation ≥ 30% was associated with a decreased risk of death (HR [95% CI] 0.12 [0.02–0.59]) compared with transferrin saturation that is consistently < 20% [20]. The gene discussed is TF; the disease is cardiovascular disorder.
