Unlike NLRP3, NLRP12 expression is decreased in human macrophages following viral infections (e.g., ZIKV, dengue virus [DENV], and Japanese encephalitis virus [JEV]); it exerts antiviral properties and interacts with NLRP3 to block the activation of the human NLRP3 inflammasome [75,76]. Here, NLRP12 is linked to viral infectious disease.
