Considering the possible role of cell apoptosis and the externalization of Ro and La antigens to the surface of cardiomyocytes in neonatal lupus, it could be hypothesized that in adults carrying these autoantibodies, acquired myocardial damage of any origin (viral, ischemic, autoimmune) could facilitate their pathogenic action. This evidence concerns the gene CALR and systemic lupus erythematosus.
