Therefore, RREB1 was selected as an ideal candidate for validation as a possible therapeutic target in melanoma of compound 3e for the following reasons: (i) it was the only DEP highly down-regulated at all three time points; (ii) RREB1 up-regulation is associated with melanoma; (iii) mRNA RREB1 is deregulated in the highest percentage of melanoma patients with respect to the other TFs (15% of alterations in patients); (iv) 3e-mediated RREB1 down-regulation is consistent with its pathogenetic overexpression in melanoma concerning TCGA and PanCancer Atlas repositories.
