UNGVAR et al. [208] demonstrated that SIRT1 overexpression significantly upregulated the expression of superoxide dismutase (MnSOD/SOD2), increased the content of reduced glutathione (GSH), inhibited the production of ROS, and lowered the cellular level of H2O2 in human coronary artery endothelial cells, which, in turn, exerted a protective effect on the endothelial damage induced by hyperglycemia and thereby inhibited the development of atherosclerosis.
