Because EBV+ NT/NKCL is an aggressive disease with significant differences in the clinical management compared to ALK-negative ALCL, it is critical to identify cases of EBV+ NT/NKCL by including EBV tests (i.e., EBER staining of histologic sections and EBV serologic studies) in the diagnostic workup of cases in which a diagnosis of ALK-negative ALCL is being considered. Here, ALK is linked to anaplastic large cell lymphoma.
