Among the 361 (average age: 76.8±12.1 years; 54.0% males) patients with stages 4 and 5 CKD newly referred to the nephrology department of our hospital between 2018 and 2023 who had evaluable transferrin saturation (TSAT) and ferritin levels, 169 patients (47%) had iron deficiency (ferritin <100 ng/mL or ferritin 100-300 ng/mL with TSAT <20%).
