Indeed, disruption of VEGF proteins and their receptors is largely implicated in diseases associated with vascular malformations including obstetrical diseases such as preeclampsia (Tarca et al., 2019; Tarca et al., 2022; Chaiworapongsa et al., 2004), a known etiology of iatrogenic preterm birth (Goldenberg et al., 2008).
