SLC5A2 and atherosclerosis: A dedicated meta-analysis of the hallmark Ccardiovascular Outcome Trials (CVOTs) with SGLT-2 inhibitors in a total of 46,969 patients with concomitant type 2 DM, two-thirds of whom had pre-existing ASCVD, documented that treatment with SGLT-2 inhibitors versus placebo conferred a significant risk reduction by 9% regarding the occurrence of AMI; of importance, this effect was significant for those patients having pre-existing ASCVD, with a relative risk reduction of 10%, while, no significant effect on the risk for AMI was documented for patients without prior ASCVD [33].
