Since the mid-2010s, the integration of deep learning has gradually found applications in DME research.[34,35] In 2019, the BOULEVARD trial, led by Sahni J and colleagues, revealed the superior efficacy of faricimab, the first dual-specificity antibody targeting VEGF and angiopoietin-2, over ranibizumab in treating patients with untreated DME.[36] By 2022, faricimab secured initial approval in the United States for treating neovascular age-related macular degeneration or DME.[37]. Here, VEGFA is linked to wet macular degeneration.
