Previous research has demonstrated that anemia in elderly hip fracture patients is often linked to negative outcomes, including an increased risk of postoperative infections, increased mortality rates, compromised postoperative functional rehabilitation, and reduced quality of life.[23–25] Recent studies have shown that low Hb is an independent risk factor for prolonged LOS.[26–28] However, this finding remains controversial. This evidence concerns the gene GSTM1 and anemia (phenotype).
