Interestingly, macrophages from these patients release more inflammatory mediators (i.e., IL-1β, IL-6, TNF-α, CXCL1, CXCL8, CCL2, LTB4) and reactive oxygen species (ROS) than those from individuals without COPD (7–9). This evidence concerns the gene CXCL1 and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease.
