Increasing severity of wounds is associated with increasing systemic (peripheral blood) concentrations of IL-10.2 Other cytokines such as IL-4, IL-6, IL-8, and transforming growth factor-beta (TGFβ) have been implicated in systemic inflammatory response after trauma.3 Severe injury has been shown to correlate with downregulation of IL-9, IL-21, IL-22, IL-23, and IL-17E/IL-25 in blunt trauma patients, all of which are mediators of tissue repair.4 Here, IL23A is linked to injury.
