Notably, since centrosome clustering appears to be selectively important for cells containing numerous centrosomes, inhibition of KIFC1 would most likely affect not only cancer cells but also other polyploid cells such as MKs, which should be taken into account for potential future clinical approaches of KIFC1 inhibitors, as they may result in altered megakaryopoiesis and thrombocytopenia as a side effect.
