By approximately 6 months of age, cyst formation commenced in the pig kidneys, exhibiting a more rapid growth compared to the previously established polycystic kidney model of transgenic miniature pigs with PKD2, as well as faster progression than ADPKD mice with a single-allele knockout of PKD1 (PKD1+/−). This evidence concerns the gene PKD2 and autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.
