Here, we show that mimicking the ascites milieu in vitro does not induce the bystander phenotype in circulating CD8+ T cells, and it is tempting to speculate that in patients with decompensated cirrhosis, CXCR6+CD69+ CD8+ T cells migrate from the liver into the ascites, where they reflect the degree of liver injury. This evidence concerns the gene CXCR6 and Cirrhosis.
