IFNG and infection: These results are consistent with increased differential expression of IFNγ transcripts in the C57BL/6 strain of mice based on scRNA-seq (Extended Data Fig. 8a), with reports of TH1 responses being associated with increased susceptibility to helminth colonization31,32, and suggest that despite complexities in how immune phenotype is influenced by genetics and environment, once that immune phenotype emerges, established ‘rules’ of infection susceptibility apply (as in ref. 20).
