Besides evaluating the biomarkers of the inflammation such as cytokines (interleukins) and acute phase proteins (APPs; C-reactive protein [CRP], haptoglobin [Hp]), and ceruloplasmin [Cp]), ratio of the traditional complete blood cell (CBC) indices seems to give significant information on diagnosis and prognosis in patients with different diseases including cardiopulmonary disorders, such as myxomatous mitral valve disease (MMVD) in dogs (DeProspero et al. 2023; Jung and Kim 2023; Ku et al. 2023) and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (HCM) in cats (Fries et al. 2022). Here, CRP is linked to hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
