There were statistically significant differences in subclinical inflammation as measured by high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) (4.2 vs. 2.04, p<0.001), high erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) (30(%) vs. 8(%), p= 0.009), and insulin resistance (0.26 vs. 0.16, p<0.001) as measured by the homeostasis model assessment of insulin resistance (HOMA-IR) between those with NAFLD and those without NAFLD. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatotic liver disease.
