CD40LG and malaria: We hypothesized that people living in malaria-endemic regions acquire strain-transcending IgG antibodies against virulence-associated VSAs, and sought to test this hypothesis by first identifying plasma samples from malaria-exposed humans that recognize multiple parasite strains displaying the rosetting IgM Fc-binding phenotype and then using the broadly reactive plasma in IgG elution experiments to test for homologous and heterologous infected erythrocyte recognition.
