Similarly, we previously showed that urinary levels of TIMP-2 as well as IGFBP7 were lower in patients with chronic kidney disease due to ADPKD as compared with healthy controls, even though beforehand it was hypothesized that urinary TIMP-2 levels should increase in patients with ADPKD in response to multiple repetitive acute ischemic events due to cyst growth and compression of surrounding tissue23. The gene discussed is TIMP2; the disease is autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease.
