The mice showed bodyweight loss over the days post-infection with a peak loss of up to 25% of their original bodyweight around 8–9 dpi, and their lungs displayed lesion areas, of which the histological analysis showed massive alveolar damage and severe epithelial dysplasia with altered tissue structures as well as an increased number of CD45+ immune cells in comparison with the uninfected control (Figure 1B, C and D). The gene discussed is PTPRC; the disease is infection.
