Although in our study we only observed significantly higher levels of IL-1 in the NEF and WEF adult groups compared to older adults, the similarity in the concentration of the other markers (IL-6, IL-8, IL-10 and TNF-α) between the NEF and WEF adult and older adult groups, suggest that FM (%) largely determines the levels of said markers regardless of age, supporting the proposal that excess fat may be a factor similar to or of greater weight than older age for sarcopenia. This evidence concerns the gene CXCL8 and sarcopenia.
