C-Kit is a type III receptor tyrosine kinase involved in numerous intracellular signaling pathways, and it has been used as a marker to identify and enrich adult stem cells such as CSCs that are capable of differentiating into cardiomyocytes, endothelial cells, and smooth muscle cells in vitro and in vivo after myocardial infarction (MI). This evidence concerns the gene KIT and myocardial infarction.
