LGALS3 and pulmonary hypertension: Several studies have shown that pharmacological inhibitionor geneticdisruption of Gal-3 has beneficial effects on cardiovascular diseasesincluding hypoxic pulmonary hypertension.15 Similarly, the inhibition of Gal-3 expression by siRNA in chronicallyhypoxic mice reduced pulmonary hypertension, attenuated hypoxia-inducedproliferation of pulmonary VSMCs, and suppressed their switching froma contractile to a synthetic phenotype.14 Gal-3 inhibition with disaccharide N-acetyllactosamineameliorated hypoxic pulmonary hypertension and pulmonary vascularremodeling in rats.11
