Here, we show for the first time, how fusion of CENP-A to a histone-sized TAP-tag can alter histone chaperone dynamics, resulting in what is normally and predominantly centromeric deposition via HJURP, to ectopic deposition via DAXX, and speculate that the aberrant nature of tagged CpA resembles transcript fusions serving as cancer biomarkers. The gene discussed is HJURP; the disease is cancer.
