In addition to the signals provided by a pathogen for NLRP3 activation, the polymorphism related to higher transcriptional activation of the NLRP3 gene should be considered as a risk factor in the pathogenesis of periodontal disease (de Alencar et al., 2020; Isaza-Guzman et al., 2016; Mahendra et al., 2021; Mahmood & Abbas, 2023; Miskiewicz et al., 2015).
