The secretion of resistin is influenced by certain metabolic and inflammatory diseases, such as CVD, atherosclerosis, type 2 diabetes and insulin resistance.33,34 Resistin is known to stimulate angiogenesis and the synthesis of proinflammatory cytokines and chemokines via the induction of C-C motif ligand 2 (CCL2) and monocyte chemoattractant protein-1 (MCP-1).35,36. The gene discussed is CCL2; the disease is type 2 diabetes mellitus.
