Clinical studies have consistently demonstrated the elevated plasma inflammatory response in patients with MDD, characterized by increased expression of granulocyte and monocyte, up-regulated levels of acute-phase reagents including c-reactive protein (CRP) and haptoglobin (17, 18), inflammatory cytokines (19, 20), and possibly chemokines (21), compared with healthy controls. The gene discussed is CRP; the disease is major depressive disorder.
