BDNF and Anxiety: Considering that juvenile male and female offspring of infected mothers have enhanced hippocampal LTP and upregulated genes associated with BDNF and neurogenesis (Noel et al., 2024), it is hypothesized that heightened hippocampal BDNF, neurogenesis and LTP may persist in adult females of H. bakeri-infected dams, driving at least in part the enhanced spatial memory and decreased anxiety-like behaviour that was observed.
