SERPINC1 and hyperhomocysteinemia: Stein et al. (16) observed that hyperhomocysteinemia (HHcy) is associated with various vascular and hematological abnormalities such as endothelial injury, increased synthesis of thromboxane A2, activation of clotting factors V, X & XII, inhibition of antithrombin III & protein C, promotion of binding of lipoprotein(a) to fibrin, and growth of smooth muscle cells.
