The combination of ginsenoside Rg3 (steroidal saponin) extracted from Panax ginseng (family Araliaceae) and the chemotherapeutic cisplatin can combat cancer cell chemoresistance in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) by inhibiting programmed death ligand 1 (PD-L1), according to the study by Jiang et al. In the in vitro experimental phase, A549 and A549/DDP (cisplatin-resistant) human lung cancer cell lines were treated with varying concentrations of ginsenoside Rg3 (5–160 μg/mL). This evidence concerns the gene CD274 and non-small cell lung carcinoma.
