Consistent with most of the Western Countries, Italy reports the majority of CRSwNP cases being affected by a type 2 inflammation with elevated levels of interleukin (IL)-4, IL-5, and IL-13, as well as a remarkable presence of eosinophils, type 2 innate lymphoid cells, macrophages, and mast cells [2,5,6,7]. The gene discussed is IL13; the disease is chronic rhinosinusitis with nasal polyps.
