Similar to ovarian cancer, where SLFN5 stimulates EMT (and migration and invasion) through repression of E-cadherin [25], SLFN5 also promotes migration and invasion in MCF7 cells by transcriptional repression of ZEB1 [30], indicating a conserved cancer-promoting role for SLFN5 by stimulating EMT in epithelial cancers.
