AKT1 and breast cancer: Over-expressing SLFN5 in TNBC cells resulted in the re-expression of the tumor suppressor PTEN leading to a decrease in the AKT/GSK3β/β-catenin pathway and TNBC aggressiveness [29], whereas in MCF7, a low invasive breast cancer cell line, knockdown of SLFN5 increased activation of the AKT/GSK3β/β-catenin pathway that leads to increased expression of MT1-MMP and enhanced migration and invasion [27].
