In a previous in vitro study on a preneoplastic JB6 P+ skin cancer cell line, apigenin was shown to reduce DNA methylation in the Nrf promoter via CpG demethylation while halting the expressions of DNMTs (DNMT1, DNMT3a, and DNMT3b) and HDACs (1–8) epigenetic proteins, which reestablished the expression of Nrf2 and elevated the levels of the NAD(P)H:quinone-oxidoreductase-1 (NQO1) gene [266]. This evidence concerns the gene NQO1 and skin neoplasm.
