Curcumin is the main phenolic pigment extracted from turmeric (the powdery rhizome of turmeric), which inhibits the expression of GPX4 and FSP1 in lung cancer cells (Zhou et al., 2023b), disrupting GPX4 activity in glioblastoma cells (Chen et al., 2020b) and stimulating ferroptosis.
