At the same time, melanoma cells produce HPA axis factors [34–39], mice bearing metastatic melanoma and patients with CMM have higher adrenocorticotropic hormone and glucocorticoid levels [40, 41], and malignant melanoma promotes its own progression via activation of a high affinity glucocorticoid receptor (GR) [42, 43]. This evidence concerns the gene POMC and metastatic melanoma.
