Furthermore, as days of mechanical ventilation was significantly lower in the tocilizumab and corticosteroid compared to the corticosteroid only group it is possible that reduced exposure to mechanical ventilation and associated components, such as sedatives, accounted for the differences in delirium/coma rather than IL-6-mediated brain dysfunction—unlike in our study that showed no significant differences in duration of mechanical ventilation. Here, IL6 is linked to type 2 diabetes mellitus.
