The apolipoprotein E (APOE) ε4 allele (APOE4) is a leading risk determinant for AD with a host of detrimental interactions (Yamazaki et al., 2019; Raulin et al., 2022), the APOE4 derived from astrocytes are reported to be responsible for the alteration of BBB integrity during AD pathology (Jackson et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene APOE and Alzheimer disease.
