SLC39A12 and brain disorder: TFRC is a cell surface receptor necessary for cellular iron uptake by the process of receptor‐mediated endocytosis that is required in neurologic development (Moos et al., 1998), and ZIP12 is a zinc transporter with an important role in nervous system development, and its mutations or lower levels have been associated with several brain diseases (Chowanadisai et al., 2013).
