Since SARS-CoV-2 infects target cells via the receptor angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2), there is controversy as to whether angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitor (ACEI) and angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB) may be associated with hypertension and worse outcomes in patients with COVID-19 (Bhandari et al., 2016; Zhao et al., 2021). This evidence concerns the gene ACE2 and COVID-19.
