As stated above, it has already been shown that GLE1 is involved in the recycling of NXF1 back into the nucleus [25], and that MKRN2 has been validated previously as a GLE1 interacting protein.16 With recent work demonstrating a role for TREX-2 mediated recruitment of NXF1 to viral mRNAs for efficient nuclear export [13], it may be important to investigate any potential links between MKRN2 and TREX-2, in the presence and absence of virus infection.
