There were some sex differences in the expression of monocyte activation markers: in children with obesity, expression (MFI) of CCR2, CD11b, CD11c, TLR2 and TLR4 were higher in females than males indicating that monocytes in female children with obesity have a more pro-inflammatory phenotype (Figure S1H; Table S2). Here, TLR2 is linked to obesity due to melanocortin 4 receptor deficiency.
