In a Mendelian randomization study, PCOS was suggested as having an increased risk of kidney disease [4] perhaps through the increased inflammatory cytokine tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF alpha) in renal tubular cells [5]; however, in a long-term population-based cohort over 13 years there appeared to be no difference in chronic kidney disease (CKD) for those with PCOS [6]. This evidence concerns the gene TNF and kidney disorder.
