Increased CD44 at both the RNA and protein levels has been found to be associated with hepatocyte ballooning and alanine aminotransferase levels in patients with hepatic steatosis, metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH), or hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection [23,24,48,49]. The gene discussed is CD44; the disease is metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis.
